Revealed to the world on May 11th 2012 in Germany, the Audi E Bike has gained everyone’s attention, even those that weren’t previously bike enthusiasts. The bike is essentially 3 different styles of bike in one. It feature a pedelec mode, that uses the rider’s pedaling power to further assist in moving the bike. It also has all the features of a true e-bike, with all of the power supplied by an electric motor. There is also a normal pedal mode that allows the rider to pedal the bike with their own power as they would any other bike. In total, there are 5 modes, Pedelec, Pure, eGrip, Power Wheelie and Balanced Wheelie. That’s right, the e-bike can balance you on the bike on it’s back wheel using complex gyroscopes and computers. It features a rechargeable battery than can be removed and fully charged in just about 2 1/2 hours.
This beast of an e bike also features WiFi – allowing for access to one’s smartphone via an app that allows owners to lock their bikes. The mobile app can also monitor your speed and the Audi e bike’s battery life. It is also used as the controller to switch bike modes, features an alarm to help deter theft and has a torque sensor.
The bike is wonderfully designed, made with an ultralight carbon fiber. The entire bike weighs 46 pounds and the frame is only 3.53 pounds. The battery takes of most of the weight coming in at 11.02 pounds. The height of the seat can be adjusted, even while the bike is being ridden, using handlebar controls.
In addition to the mobile app, the Audi e bike itself includes a trip computer keeping track of various details and information. The trip computer keeps track of the basics such as how far you’ve traveled, how fast you’re going, and even some other details such as battery power left and the current angle of slope you’re on.
